Maybe you could bring up the signs you both had. Not only would that show you had something in common, but even a shy person can decipher a flirtatious message like that. If you're too shy, tell him he reminds you of someone or looks like someone you know (doesn't have to be true). Tell him what about him reminds you of this person, all the while complimenting him subtly. If that doesn't work, just ask him to work on an English ignment with you. Some of the odd sentences in certain problems will inspire conversation.
