Can a cd be burned into my laptop...or to blank disc? Do I have to re-purchase music I already own from intern

I apologize in advance if this sounds like a brainless question-I'm new to computers and kinda trying to figure out everything on my own. I have a new laptop (an Acer Aspire 5570-2094) and it came with a burner. I am making slide shows, and would really love to add music. I have 1000's of cds, but am wondering if I can use them (copy them to disc somehow or straight into laptop?) or do I have to repurchase the songs I want from the internet? I have purchased cd-r's and rewritable cd-rw's, but haven't a CLUE what to do next! Would anyone be willing to walk me through th process (if there IS one...) and if it's not too difficult?
