Why did Tom Hanks leave out the most pivotal communication process out of "The Pacific?)?

What happened to all the Navajo Code Talkers in the the HBO series The Pacific? They got no glory at all. The most secure and unbreakable code ever just gets forgotten, like its people who saved every European settler in America.
