MFA makes you a better writer...?

I've read in recent months that there's some debate that you're not a "real" writer unless you have a Masters of Fine Arts. Can anyone provide me with details involving this? I personally don't believe you necessarily need a Masters but I do believe that MFAs can definitely be beneficial.
