I'm running out of disk space on my osx 10.6.4?

I have a lot of music save if my vuze download folder. I think that when I transfer it to my itunes, it saves in another folder. Is it safe to delete the content in my vuze folder if it is already in my itunes? Or will the files be gone and the music be inaccessible?
